The European Heart Network (EHN), European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) and European Public Health Association (EUPHA), have today sent a joint letter to European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans, strongly welcoming the commitment by the European Commission to launch a “Farm to Fork” strategy.

The role and impact of electronic cigarettes continues to provoke a major public health debate in Europe and beyond.  This updated EHN paper focuses on the effects of e-cigarette use on the cardiovascular system. It also presents information on trends in use of e-cigarettes, as well as marketing and regulation.  Furthermore, it discusses the distinction between absolute and relative risk.

EHN and six other organisations have taken the decision to leave the EU platform for action on diet, physical activity and health. 

The Common Agriculture Policy, now under reform, can facilitate a transition toward healthier more sustainable diets. 

The evidence is clear: to secure a thriving future for people and planet we need to collectively transform our eating patterns towards healthier, more plant-rich diets. The EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP), now under reform, can facilitate this transition.

The European Heart Network (EHN) calls on all 2019 political candidates and parties to pledge their commitment to improving cardiovascular health and the lives of those living with CVD.  

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) – including heart disease and stroke – affects 49 million people in the EU alone. CVD is the leading cause of death and a considerable burden of disability in the EU. Despite this, funding for CVD research through Horizon 2020 would appear to be quite modest (approx. 1% of total research projects compared to, for example, approx. 5% for cancer).

For the post-Brexit relationship between UK and EU CVD researchers, the close ties which have developed over the past thirty years, and which have benefitted patients across Europe, must not be severed.
